Militant Theology

In a peaceful, unstressed atmosphere, His Eminence listens to the messages of our times and, with a sense of responsibility, respect for the sacred Canons and institutions, and an ecclesiastical way of thinking free from partisan expediency, he intervenes discreetly in all the current ecclesiological and social issues during the period of his episcopal ministry, from the perspective of the Church, linking theology and pastoral service.
Subjects covered include: the recording of religious affiliation on identity cards, the crisis between the Church of Greece and the Ecumenical Patriarch, the relationship between Church and State, ecclesiastical scandals, developments in the Church, the ecclesiastical and economic crisis, scientific progress, and social life in the city of Nafpaktos.
The Church does not act in a partisan way. It ought not to be used for political and national purposes, because by its very nature it expresses unity. Nor should the Clergy be involved in political and social issues, leaving people’s spiritual anxieties about life and death unanswered. The administration of the Church cannot take a politically biased approach, abandoning Orthodox theology and ecclesiology and dominated by communication science.
The publication of Militant Theology will show that in our time, when there are fast-moving developments in every sphere, the Church must speak. Its words are revolutionary, penetrating, critical and therapeutic, and respond to contemporary unease, to existential anxieties, and serious issues in the Church and society today. This book demonstrates how a Bishop of a local Church disseminates theology through the mass media, and proves that the Church, with its life, theology and culture, is the only consolation for people, giving human life fullness and meaning.
